Brigham House, Biggleswade, is home to one of three sites for George Hay Chartered Accountants, an established Accountancy firm that have been operating for over 80 years across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire.

The Challenges

With a combination of old Cat5 and CW1308 cabling throughout the building, George Hay had an immediate requirement to improve data performance in the building and future-proof their infrastructure going forward.

Only the front fascia of the building is Grade II listed but originating from the early 19th century, this 2-storey, thick solid walled building, has undergone numerous extensions over time.

Internally, more than 21 separate rooms over the ground, first and second floors made for a challenging installation and to top it, Ladybird’s proposals were given the go-ahead, during one of George Hays’ busiest periods: tax return season.

The Solution

Over the course of 2 months, Ladybird and George Hay worked closely, planning days on-site, when access to areas of the building were most convenient to fulfil the cabling of 174 points of CAT5e, replace containment, terminate, test and patch; planning was especially important to avoid disruption to operations. Noisy drilling work was conducted before staff arrived at their desks and engineers worked with individuals to accommodate their requirements.

Outcome

In early March 2022, the site was switched over completely to the new cabling and the old infrastructure was removed and taken away. George Hay were particularly happy at the speed and lack of disruption by the Ladybird engineer.
